Nearly all grocery stores have a specialty meat department. This department also requires specialized help and therefore there are opportunities for butchers, meat managers, meat buyers and other employees in this area.
Butchers work both behind the scenes and with the customers directly. They cut, weigh and package meat and poultry for purchase. They also work directly with customers on custom orders, where customers visit the meat counter of the grocery store and place an order. Butchers and meat managers may also play a role in the selection and purchasing of the meat that the store will carry.
