Grocery Store Cashier Jobs

Grocery store cashiers represent the store and often times leave the last impression of the store on the customer. Cashiers scan items, accept and process payment, take care of any order errors and sometimes bag the groceries. Some grocery stores offer self-checkout and cashiers will be on hand to assist customers with any problems.

Cashiers interact with customers and therefore should have a pleasant demeanor and enjoy working with the public. Due to the need to scan items efficiently, cashiers should have strong coordination skills and dexterity.  Cashiers should also feel confident counting money to give proper change to customers who pay in cash. Cashiers, order fillers and stock clerks make up 49% of all grocery store employees according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
