Once you are a grocery store employee, you have the opportunity to impress the management and also will get the inside information on opportunities that may arise in other grocery stores. Being knowledgeable about the competition is smart and helps you to understand how you can play to their strengths and weaknesses. Furthermore, you may pick up some ideas that would be a good idea to try out in your own grocery store.

Help Out As Much As Possible:  When your manager needs someone to work an extra shift or help with a special project, be the first to raise your hand whenever possible. Even if you are not asked for a special favor, be sure that you are going the extra mile in your everyday work. Your manager will take notice and think of you first when new job opportunities arise.

Feed the Hand that Feeds You: While this may be obvious, but be sure to shop at your own grocery employer. This shows your support of the organization and you may be able to benefit from discounts. You may think that no one with notice, but seeing you in the store as a shopper as well an employee shows your loyalty to the grocery store or supermarket.
